Celtic Ancient Coin and White Sapphire - 14k Gold
Sequani Horse symbolizing Gallic identity
Head of Roma with Helmet on back
Circa 58-50 B.C.E
This is an ancient silver AR Quinarius from the Sequani tribe in Central Gaul (Circa mid-1st century BCE, around Caesar's Gallic Wars). A Celtic coin blending Roman influence featuring a Celticized head of Roma and a horse symbolizing local power and Gallic identity during the period leading up to Roman conquest.
The Sequani were a powerful Gallic tribe in modern-day France in which this coin shows a Celtic interpretation of Roma (the personification of Rome) with a helmet and curly hair, bearing a tribal name "Q. DOCI".
Struck by hammer, making each coin unique. The Gaulish ethnonym Sequani (sing. Sequanos) stems from the Celtic name of the Seine river, Sequana.
