Antiochus VII Tetradrachm with Diamond (100 - 90 BCE)
Obverse: King Antiochus VII Euergetes
Reverse: Athena with spear and shield
Circa 100-90 BCE
Antiochos VII was the last of the Seleucid kings who attempted to reclaim the once-mighty empire. His reign was occupied by fruitless battles and ephemeral victories ending with ancient Syria as his only domain. Antiochos was the son of Demetrios I Soter (reigned 161–150 BC).
Coins from the Seleucid period are thought to be some of the most beautiful and sought after. This piece also looks handsome on a simple leather rope or mixed with a sterling chain. The diamond bail is reversable and adds about 1/2" in length. Coin can be worn showing either side.
