Gallienus Bronze Denarii and Hubei Turquoise Ring

Gallienus Bronze Denarii and Hubei Turquoise Ring

(c 256 - 268 CE)

An authentic ancient bronze coin of Gallienus takes center stage. His portrait, wearing a radiate crown marks the coin's value as two denarii. It is paired with a gem-grade Hubei "Giraffe" turquoise set in a premium sterling called Argentium.

About the coin: Publius Licinius Egnatius Gallienus was the son of the emperor Valerian I. Gallienus was quite successful against the German tribes for which his Arch of Triumph still stands today.

The late 3rd Century was one of the most difficult periods in Rome’s long history during which these coins were minted to pay the legions. In 260 the Roman Empire was unraveling at both ends: in the East the emperor Valerian I (253 to 260) had been taken hostage by the Sasanians, and the West had succumbed to the revolt of a Roman governor in Germany.

A great many coins were issued in the Romano-Gallic Empire. Although gold and silver coins were struck, the billon double-denarii (antoniniani) like this are the most common remaining today.

This ring was hand-crafted using beautiful Argentium sterling with a satin finish.  Argentium is preferred because of its bright white color and resistance to tarnishing (due to its lower copper content). Created in the UK, Argentium is considered premium, second only to white gold.

This cuff-style ring, with a wide, floral Argentium band is slightly adjustable with a gentle squeeze.
