Elymais Kingdom Tetradrachm with London Blue Topaz (42-41 BCE)
Obverse: Kamnaskires V with star and anchor
Reverse: Draped bust of Kanmaskires with legend
Circa 42-41 BCE (Seleucid Era 271 )
Kamnaskires V was a king of the Elymais Kingdom, an autonomous state in modern-day SW Iran (ancient Susiana) that was a vassal to the Parthian Empire. The small star and anchor symbols on right reflect a blend of Seleucid-influenced political and religious traditions.
The Elymais Kingdom existed as a semi-independent state between the decline of the Seleucid Empire and the rise of the Sasanians and was a significant power in the region during the Hellenistic and Parthian periods, with its rulers frequently using Greek-style coinage to assert their authority.
