This authentic Roman-era pendant was worn as a symbol of devotion and protection in early Christian practice. 

The compact size allowed it to be worn daily as a personal devotional object with faint incised details highlighting the wounds of Christ, indicative of early Christian iconography in the late Roman Empire. The style and casting suggest production in provincial workshops of the Eastern or Western Roman Empire.

Such pendants were part of a broader trend in late Roman Christian material culture, where small, portable icons or crosses were used by believers for private devotion and as protective talismans during travel or daily life.

Notice the "desert patina" composed of a mix of soil and the corrosion products of the bronze which have "glued" the sediment over centuries of burial.  Collectors often prize this type of smooth, intact desert patina because it is a mark of authenticity.
