Roman Protective Incense Amulet - Europe
c 100-300 Common Era (A.D.)
An authentic Roman silver incense pendant, formed as a hollow teardrop-shaped vessel with an integrated suspension loop. Pendants of this type were designed to contain incense, aromatics, or protective substances, allowing scent or smoke to escape through small openings or seams when worn or heated.
Functioned both as personal adornment and their aromatic qualities, apotropaic protection, and religious significance, often associated with household cult practice, healing, or personal devotion in the Roman world.
The silver alloy, construction method, wear patterns, and mineralized surface are consistent with excavated Roman incense pendants.
Acquired from an old European source. Authentic collector's item.
