An ancient silver AR Quinarius from the Sequani tribe in Central Gaul around the time of Caesar's Gallic Wars.
The Sequani, a powerful Gallic tribe in modern-day France issued these coins typically showing a Celtic interpretation of Roma (the personification of Rome), often with a helmet and curly hair like this one.
Struck by hammer making each coin unique, the Gaulish ethnonym Sequani stems from the Celtic name of the Seine River, Sequana.
The quinarius coin served as a half-denarius denomination used during the time of the Roman conquest.
