An early rustic bronze clover found on the outskirts of Kyiv on the banks of the Dnieper River, historically known for Viking settlements. The Dnieper River was a major artery of the Viking trade routes connecting Scandinavia with the Byzantine Empire. Varangian (Viking) settlers, merchants, and mercenaries traveled and settled along these riverways, interacting closely with the Slavic population and the Christianizing Kievan Rus.
Four-leaf clovers or quatrefoil shapes were historically used across ancient cultures as protective talismans or symbols of fortune, health, faith, hope, love, and luck. In later Nordic and Finnish heritage design traditions, the four-leaf clover motif carries the traditional meaning that each leaf represents faith, hope, love, and luck.
