Viking Bronze Kievan Rus Cross Pendant (11th c CE)

Viking Bronze Kievan Rus Cross Pendant (11th c CE)

 11th century CE

Authentic equilateral Scandinavian/Rus cross found on the outskirts of Kyiv on the banks of the Dnieper River where ancient Viking and Varangian-associated bronze cross amulets are found from this time period, typically representing the cultural and religious bridge between Scandinavian traders/warriors and the Kievan Rus state.

The Dnieper River was a major artery of the Viking trade routes connecting Scandinavia with the Byzantine Empire. Varangian (Viking) settlers, merchants, and mercenaries traveled and settled along these riverways, interacting closely with the Slavic population and the Christianizing Kievan Rus.

During the 10th and 11th centuries, Scandinavian and Rus societies underwent a gradual religious shift. Bronze cross pendants and "Kievan cross" designs emerged during this era. Many early converts or transitional figures wore Christian crosses alongside or in place of traditional pagan symbols like Mjölnir (Thor's hammer).

I added a 14k gold 'halo' collar with hand-crafted rustic design and hung it on a 14k gold diamond carabiner clip bail so it can be interchanged with the chain or leather cord of your choice.

  • Cross size:  23mm x 15mm (about 1/2" inch wide)

  • 7mm long, 14k with diamond clip bail
  • Arrives in micro-suede pouch, gift box and polishing cloth
  • Certificate of Authenticity provided

*Chain and diamond charm shown are not included; feel free to contact me for chain or leather options
